USA: Oregon - Chocolate Hazelnut Tart

I struggled a bit with a food from Oregon as a lot of the recipes included ingredients I couldn't get like marionberries, Tillamook cheese and Dungeness crab. But! Oregon is responsible for 99% of all hazelnuts grown in the US. So surely I'm safe with a chocolate hazelnut tart! It's a tart/pie I haven't tried before so I'm looking forward to it.

Ingredients:

1 pie crust

1/2 cup sugar

3 tablespoons flour

3 eggs

1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup hazelnuts

1 cup golden syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 teaspoon salt

This is such an easy recipe if you use a shop bought pastry shell. I bought ready made pastry and just lined a dish with it ready for the filling. The hazelnuts need to be toasted first, which i did on an oven tray in the oven for 10-12 minutes at 180 C.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.

Pour into the pie crust and bake at 150 C for an hour. My tart took an extra 15 minutes with foil on top to properly set. Leave it to cool and then serve with whipped cream or ice cream, whichever you fancy. It's also delicious the next day when it's cold.

We all enjoyed this tart. In our house the only way hazelnuts are usually consumed is by eating Nutella so this was a refreshing change. It's a simple recipe but it works well. The nuts still have a crunch inside the tart which contrasts well with the gooey sweet syrup in there. Just as nice as pecan pie, thanks Oregon!
