USA: South Dakota - Chislic

Chislic is a popular bar food in South Dakota and it apparently goes well with a cold beer. It's usually served with cocktail sticks to eat with and dips such as blue cheese or hot sauce. I like how it's simply seasoned and fried without any kind of coating.

Ingredients:

500g beef, lamb or venison.

1 teaspoon garlic salt

oil for frying

dips of choice

Dust the meat with the garlic salt and toss to coat evenly.

Heat some oil in a pan deep enough to cover the meat and fry the meat for roughly 3 minutes. It's quite frightening how much the oil bubbles while you do this but it's meant to.

Take the meat out with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. Serve with your chosen dips and toothpicks to eat with.

I really liked the blue cheese dip with the beef. They went really well together. Eating it with cocktail sticks worked too. It felt like a nice lunch along with some bread & butter. Simple but very tasty!
