Finally my last Turkish recipe! Gözleme are flat breads that can be made with many different fillings. They can be made with or without the addition of yeast to the dough so I'll be going for 'without' as I still haven't been able to find any in the shops!
Ingredients:
For the dough:
1 1/2 cups flour
pinch salt
1 1/2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon yoghurt
130ml water
For the filling:
2 potatoes
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
100g feta
parsley
salt & pepper
Put all the dough ingredients in a bowl.
Stir to form the dough. Add a little more flour if it's wet. Set aside while we make the filling.
Peel and cube the potatoes. (Or just potato if like me you've got a big one) Cook it in some lightly salted water until soft and then mash it.
Add the remaining filling ingredients to the pan and stir well to combine everything.
Split the dough into 4 pieces. Roll out each piece into a flat circle and fill with a quarter of the filling.
Fold the dough over to make a circular disk shape, brush with oil and cook in a frying pan for 2-3 minutes on each side.
I served ours with some yogurt and a dusting of paprika.
These were great! JD and I enjoyed them with the yoghurt. I'd be interested in trying them with a meat filling too. The feta was really nice in the mashed potato so we might have to give that a go when we next have mash. It seems like it'd be any easy lunch to make with leftover Sunday lunch items like veg, mash or shredded meat. Very versatile and tasty!
