These Swiss cheese fritters are popular on the streets of Switzerland and I can see why, yum!
Ingredients:
Makes 4
4 slices white bread
300g gruyere
2 tablespoons flour
pinch nutmeg
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg
salt & pepper
50 ml white wine
Using a cookie cutter cut 4 rounds, 1 from each slice of bread.
Put the grated gruyere, flour, garlic, egg, nutmeg, salt & pepper in a bowl.
Mix well and then add as much wine as you need to make the mixture clump together.
Mound a quarter of the mixture on each of the bread rounds.
Heat 1-2 inches of oil in a saucepan. Fry the fritters in the oil for 7 minutes, turning over halfway through.
Remove to kitchen paper to drain and then eat while still warm.
Well of course, these were delicious! Warm, melted cheese in the centre of a golden brown crunchy exterior. Quite simple to make too. Would make a lovely dinner party starter. Very nice indeed 😊
